Our lab recently relocated to the new Neuroscience Research Building, an 11-story, 609,000-square-foot neuroscience research building on the School of Medicine campus. The new building brings together more than 100 research teams from across the university focused on solving the many mysteries of the brain and the body’s nervous system.

Julian Abt, a senior majoring in Neuroscience, with minors in Medical Humanities and Russian Language and Literature, in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, has been awarded the 2023 Ralph S. Quatrano Prize by the Department of Biology.

Dr. Jose Moron-Concepcion, a professor at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been appointed to the National Advisory Dental and Craniofacial Research Council for a four-year term, advising on matters related to dental and craniofacial research, with a focus on opioid addiction and pain research.

Our paper by Bernard Mulvey, Hannah Frye, Tania Lintz, Stuart Fass, Eric Tycksen, Elliot Nelson, Jose Morón, and Joseph Dougherty, has been accepted in “eNeuro.”

The Massaly Lab will be investigating the circuitry and cellular mechanisms underlying pain negative affect and substance use disorders.

Our research on mesolimbic dopamine neurons in pain was featured on the cover of “Nature Neuroscience.”

Our research on pain sensations was featured in an article on “ZME Science.” The findings might prove pivotal in our efforts to address depression and the rising issue of opioid addiction.

On April 19, 2021, our graduate student, Dominika Burek, had her Thesis Examination on “Phenotyping and preclinical meta-analysis of behavioral outcomes from Complete Freund’s Adjuvant-induced inflammatory pain in the rodent hind-paw.” Congratulations Tamara on all your hard work!

Excited to share our “BioRxiv Preprint” by Hannah Frye. This study, the first to identify sex-specific effects of the AMPAR auxiliary protein CNIH3 on spatial memory, provides the groundwork for future studies investigating the role of CNIH3 on sexually dimorphic AMPAR-dependent behavior and hippocampal synaptic plasticity.
